also,

SO IN MY ALICE IN WONDERLAND FRENZY (and lack of city/uni life)- FOUND SOMETHING COOL ABOUT THE COUNTRYSIDE.

A TOWN NEAR TO HOME, IS WHERE LEWIS CARROLL WAS ACTUALLY BORN. AND, AS IT'S A PRETTY QUIET TOWN- A MINOR VILLAGE IN FACT. THEY HAD TO BIG UP THEIR ONE AND ONLY CLAIM TO FAME SOME HOW.
AND HOW TO DO IT- DEDICATE THE STAINED GLASS WINDOWS TO ALICE IN WONDERLAND OF COURSE.
COOL HUH?

TOOK THE OPPORTUNITY FOR A VISIT ON A LOVELY SUNNY DAY. ONE THAT SUGGESTED POSSIBLY THE START OF THE LONGLY ANTICIPATED, SPRING. so, as British as we unfortunately are, yes we did whip out the sunglasses and a picnic (remaining inside the car to shelter from the ever-lasting 'breeze' i must add).

NICE THOUGH.

meat in this sandwich, not mine. pombears- mine.

 sportswear for sports phase- check.

sunglasses/ gloves. don't you love England.

WONDERLAND

FINALLY, I'VE SEEN IT. THE FILM EVERY ONE SEEMED TO HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR- though reviews didn't end up being as thrilling. especially from friends whom when i asked wass it good, nearly all responded with a resounding "mehhh..."

PERSONALLY, I ENJOYED IT. NO, IT WASN'T THE BEST FILM I'VE EVER SEEN AND I STILL PROBABLY COULDN'T TELL YOU THE PLOT, BUT IT WAS PRETTY SWEET AND CLEARLY, A HARD JOB TO REMAKE SUCH A CLASSIC.
3D, DEFINATELY ENHANCED IT. SUCH A NOVELTY, I CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE UBER-LIFELIKE GOODNESS AND CINEMA NECESSITATED GEEK-CHIC...

WITH MUCH PREMATURE ANTICIPATION, I HAD ENOUGH TIME TO PURCHASE AND READ THE BOOK BEFORE WATCHING THE FILM! (i realise i wasn't actually aware of the story, just had vague ideas of rabbit holes and talking animals!?)

SOMETHINGS WERE JUST AS I EXPECTED, THOUGH SOMETHINGS WERE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.
HER DRESSES FOR EXAMPLE...blue was a given, but I wasn't too sure about some of the silhouette choices, the draping-off-the-shoulder number - muchos too seductive for such a sweet and naive thing surely. yes she's now twenty but she's still the epitomy of innocence. i was thinking something more shouldered and sweet heart necklined perhaps.

ISN'T IT FUNNY HOW YOU PICTURE THINGS IN YOUR HEAD WHICH MAYBE OTHERS DON'T SEE. AND HOW BOOKS LET YOU THINK UP PICTURES WHICH NO-ONE ELSE CAN EVER SIGHT. AND EVEN HOW YOU RELATE CERTAIN THINGS TO CERTAIN IDEAS THAT OTHERS WOULD THINK ARE JUST PLAIN WIERD.

like when i see clubs on playing cards, i only think Beefeater Gin.
and when i have frozen sweetcorn i automatically think of Kool and the Gang
or the end of a sweet cup of tea- don't you think it tastes like turquoise?

The garden of Wonderland- i thought it'd be more lush, more green and less, well creeepy.
Alice herself, she should've been blonder.
The plaing card soldiers- they should've been white and red not jussst red.
helena bonham carter however, was just perfect. she's wierd, but brilliant.
and the castle, i LOVED it's similarity to the Disney castle- d.r.e.a.mlike

it's funny how one person's mind can influence such a large thing. a costume designer- that's a bigger deal than I first thought.

regardless of you thinking the film good or bad, it's effects on the fashion high street are undeniable. Sure the Lolita thing started a while back with catwalk collections, and youthful accessories, and everyone getting excited to revisit their youth, but the Alice in Wonderland idea seems to have completely trodden it down. Everything, everywhere is about teacups and stopclocks and mixing spoons and top hats.

the highstreet has gone full on with each and every shop getting on the alice-in-wonderland-band-wagon.

HERE, MY FAVOURITE EVER ALICE IN WONDERLAND EDITORIAL...

STUCK IN YOUR YOUTH

HAVING FOREVER WANTED TO GROW UP, TURNING 18 MADE ME OPTIMISTIC ABOUT FUTURE AND PLANS AHEAD. THOUGH AS IRONY HAS IT, TYPICAL ISN’T IT THAT CHILDHOOD IS NOW BECOMING THE IT-SCENE.

WITH 13-YEAR OLD BLOGGERS TAKING OVER THE BLOGOSPHERE, YOUTH HAS BECOME THE TALK OF THE TOWN. FASHION DESIGNERS EVERYWHERE ARE GIVING IN TO THEIR CHILDHOOD FANTASIES, CREATING A SENSE OF NOSTALGIA WITH NEW SPRING COLLECTIONS. LOLITA, A TREND IN JAPAN (WHICH, IF YOU’VE BEEN, OR EVEN JUST VISITED ANY INTERNATIONAL LANDMARK WITH JAPANESE TOURISTS, ARE MORE THAN LIKELY TO HAVE SEEN) SEEMS TO BE INFLUENCING INTERNATIONAL DESIGNERS. A TREND WHEREBY WOMAN AND TEENAGERS DRESS UP IN WHAT APPEAR TO BE WHIMSICAL, NYMPHET LIKE FASHIONS MIMICKING THAT OF A MADE-UP CHILD OR PORCELAIN DOLL. A VERY GIRLY AND FEMININE FEEL, THE LOLITA TREND IS HUGE IN JAPAN CAPTURING WOMAN AND ALLOWING THEM TO RE-ENTER THEIR YOUTH! A SWEET AND DAINTY LOOK FOR SOME, CAN ALSO GO VERY ELABORATE WITH YOUNG GIRLS EXPERIMENTING SO FAR TO BECOME SLIGHTLY FRIGHTFUL LIFE-SIZED DOLLS. THIS SEASON, MARC JACOBS AND LUELLA HAVE BOTH USED OVERSIZED ALICE-IN-WONDERLAND-ESQUE BOWS AND PRADA HAS REINTRODUCED PINAFORES AND PIGTAILS- DOLLED UP WITH BARBIE STYLE SUNGLASSES AND SUGARSWEET LIPSTICKS. ACROSS THE POND, BETSEY JOHNSON’S COLLECTION COULD BE EASILY CONFUSED WITH THE WARDROBE OF ST. TRINIANS 3, WITH BRACES, TIED SHIRTS, AND LONG SOCKS AT THE READY.

I’M SURE THIS IS GOING TO GO DOWN WELL, WITH SOME EXCELLENT HIGH STREET VERSIONS, BUT I DON’T KNOW YET IF I’M ACTUALLY IN TO IT OR NOT. DO WE REALLY WANT THE FASHION WORLD FULL OF OVER-AGED ‘DOLLS’, ALL GRAPPLING FOR A SECOND LOOK AT THEIR YOUTH? AT THIS RATE- FORGET PRADA, WE’RE ALL GOING TO END UP CRYING TO MUMMY WHEN THEY’RE OUT OF STOCK AT TAMMY!
