WONDERLAND

FINALLY, I'VE SEEN IT. THE FILM EVERY ONE SEEMED TO HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR- though reviews didn't end up being as thrilling. especially from friends whom when i asked wass it good, nearly all responded with a resounding "mehhh..."

PERSONALLY, I ENJOYED IT. NO, IT WASN'T THE BEST FILM I'VE EVER SEEN AND I STILL PROBABLY COULDN'T TELL YOU THE PLOT, BUT IT WAS PRETTY SWEET AND CLEARLY, A HARD JOB TO REMAKE SUCH A CLASSIC.
3D, DEFINATELY ENHANCED IT. SUCH A NOVELTY, I CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE UBER-LIFELIKE GOODNESS AND CINEMA NECESSITATED GEEK-CHIC...

WITH MUCH PREMATURE ANTICIPATION, I HAD ENOUGH TIME TO PURCHASE AND READ THE BOOK BEFORE WATCHING THE FILM! (i realise i wasn't actually aware of the story, just had vague ideas of rabbit holes and talking animals!?)

SOMETHINGS WERE JUST AS I EXPECTED, THOUGH SOMETHINGS WERE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.
HER DRESSES FOR EXAMPLE...blue was a given, but I wasn't too sure about some of the silhouette choices, the draping-off-the-shoulder number - muchos too seductive for such a sweet and naive thing surely. yes she's now twenty but she's still the epitomy of innocence. i was thinking something more shouldered and sweet heart necklined perhaps.

ISN'T IT FUNNY HOW YOU PICTURE THINGS IN YOUR HEAD WHICH MAYBE OTHERS DON'T SEE. AND HOW BOOKS LET YOU THINK UP PICTURES WHICH NO-ONE ELSE CAN EVER SIGHT. AND EVEN HOW YOU RELATE CERTAIN THINGS TO CERTAIN IDEAS THAT OTHERS WOULD THINK ARE JUST PLAIN WIERD.

like when i see clubs on playing cards, i only think Beefeater Gin.
and when i have frozen sweetcorn i automatically think of Kool and the Gang
or the end of a sweet cup of tea- don't you think it tastes like turquoise?

The garden of Wonderland- i thought it'd be more lush, more green and less, well creeepy.
Alice herself, she should've been blonder.
The plaing card soldiers- they should've been white and red not jussst red.
helena bonham carter however, was just perfect. she's wierd, but brilliant.
and the castle, i LOVED it's similarity to the Disney castle- d.r.e.a.mlike

it's funny how one person's mind can influence such a large thing. a costume designer- that's a bigger deal than I first thought.

regardless of you thinking the film good or bad, it's effects on the fashion high street are undeniable. Sure the Lolita thing started a while back with catwalk collections, and youthful accessories, and everyone getting excited to revisit their youth, but the Alice in Wonderland idea seems to have completely trodden it down. Everything, everywhere is about teacups and stopclocks and mixing spoons and top hats.

the highstreet has gone full on with each and every shop getting on the alice-in-wonderland-band-wagon.
